Laurier launches the world's fastest LED die sorter, the DS11000

Londonderry, NH, May 2006Laurier Inc., a leading supplier of Die Sorting Equipment for the LED market, has begun shipping the DS11000, its newest system for binning LED devices. This system replaces the previous DS9000LED model, a highly successful performer with a large installed base.

Traditional LED sorters transfer die from wafer to bin blocks, one block for each sort. This process requires manual handling of bin blocks and frequent operator attention, additionally as the number of bins increases, the machines become slower and slower.  Laurier developed a faster more cost effective solution that is not restricted to small bin blocks or limited by the number of sorts.

Laurier’s proprietary electronic adaptive mapping and smart picking software looks ahead at all the die of one bin, choosing the best picking sequence to maximize throughput, picking die in groups rather than following rows and columns. This results in a pick place rate of over 11000 parts per hour. With the exceptional “soft touch” pick head process, LED’s as thin as 40 microns can be sorted.

A bar code ID on each frame and Laurier’s die tracking software provides die level traceability for every frame, as well as vision inspection data for process monitoring and analysis.

The DS11000 will pick and place 200µm square LED’s at a rate in excess of 11,000 per hour, binning to as many as 37 output frames. With an optional expanded frame handling system, up to 148 frames and bins can be processed without machine interruption. The DS11000 is unmatched in throughput and binning capability, and is the standard to which other LED sorters are to be measured.
